Jack and Dil movie: Review, cast, director

Film: Jack and Dil

Cast: Arbaaz Khan, Amit Sadh, Sonal Chauhan, Evelyn Sharma

Director: Sachin P Karande

Rating: * ½

Sachin P Karande’s attempt to spice up a feeble romedy with implausible shifts in story comes a cropper. Walia (Arbaaz) a super successful head of an ad agency that has gone from a turnover of Rs 50,000 to Rs 70 crore, has no time to give his pretty, neglected artist wife Shilpa (Sonal Chauhan). So he hires Jack (Amit Sadh) – who came to him to purchase his pet pug – to play detective and follow Shilpa with the intention of garnering proof of her infidelity. Jack is all too willing to follow Shilpa around and con Walia out of a few luxuries. But then Jack falls for Shilpa, but Shilpa is unwilling to give up on her marriage and Walia makes positive attempts to redeem himself.

It’s a totally convoluted set-up with no justification or plausible motivation for what the characters do or say here. The narrative seems patchy and underwritten with characters jumping into parleys that feel contrived and unbelievable. In the middle of all this nonsense, there’s an attempt to garner some empathy for Walia by putting him in a catch 22 situation where he is forced to choose between working on his marriage or expanding his business. No prizes for guessing what he chose, but irrespective of that choice this is a totally clueless directorial effort with pitiable inputs in scripting, dialogues and performances. Despite an ill-defined role Amit Sadh retains likeability and Sonal Chauhan is eye-pleasing… but Arbaaz Khan’s wooden block impersonation is tough to overlook. There’s neither comedy nor drama worthy of engagement here!
